US Grid Modernization Policy
The United States is burdened by a dated and inefficient power system. To meet the energy challenges of the future, they must transition to a smarter, more efficient, more sustainable electrical system that can power their economy for the long-term. They are modernizing America’s power system through work in the following areas:
Grid Planning
Distributed energy resources — such as distributed generation, advanced inverters, demand response, and energy storage — are transforming the power system. We help utilities and policymakers proactively plan the power grid to accommodate more distributed energy resources.
Grid Access
A key priority for the Clean Coalition is simplifying and streamlining the process for connecting local renewables to the grid. The Clean Coalition focuses on ensuring that wholesale distributed generation (WDG) facilities can connect to the grid in a timely and fair manner.
Intelligent Grid Solutions
The creation of a reliable power system that integrates local renewable energy with intelligent grid solutions is vital for powering America’s increasingly electricity-reliant economy. Intelligent grid solutions enable high levels of local renewable energy, improve power quality, and enhance system resilience. The core solutions are distributed generation, demand response, forecasting & curtailment, advanced inverters, energy storage, and monitoring, communications, and control systems.
Renewables Integration
We are showing that distributed generation and intelligent grid solutions — such as demand response, advanced inverters, and energy storage — enable system operators to maintain grid reliability by keeping power, voltage, and frequency in balance.
